"Dear staff,

It brings us no pleasure to make this announcement today - the WHO has declared a global pandemic and it is going to undoubtedly wreak havoc on the city’s clinical capacity and basically life as we know it. Many of you may lose your jobs. Many of you will have to work from home, likely with the constant attention of your loved ones and roommates because literally everything is closed. We know this is hard and we want to support you as best we can. If you are comfortable, we encourage you to get out and volunteer some time to help front-line staff in whatever way you can. Just think, cool hazmat gear AND you’ll get to leave the house for a few hours! But also, let us know, ok? Like I said, we want to support you. Updates will be forthcoming.

You blink a few times at the screen. You feel your chest tighten. It’s probably not COVID. Or is it? You spin in your chair fitfully then turn back to your computer.
